Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do with it.

Last updated: August 24, 2026

The short version

  • We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent it, trade it, or exchange it with anyone for their own use.
  • We do not share our donor list or our email list with other organizations, campaigns, candidates, or list brokers.
  • This site runs no analytics service, no advertising pixels, and no tracking cookies.
  • You can leave our email list at any time — one click, honored promptly.

The full policy is below. If anything here is unclear, ask us — we would rather explain it than have you guess.

Who we are

The Fiscal Alliance Foundation is a nonprofit organization determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, EIN 81-5302132. Our office is at 31 State Street, Suite 401, Boston, Massachusetts 02109.

This policy covers this website and the email we send. It applies to everyone who visits the site, joins our mailing list, contacts us, or makes a gift. When this policy says “we,” “us,” or “the Foundation,” it means the Fiscal Alliance Foundation and its state chapters.

Information you give us

We receive personal information only when you choose to give it to us. That happens in four places:

  • The email signup. Your email address, and — if you fill them in — your first and last name and which states you want updates about. First name, last name, and state interests are optional; only the email address is required.
  • The contact form. The subject you select, your first and last name, your email address, a mobile number if you provide one, and the message you write.
  • Donations. Typically your name, billing address, email address, and the amount and designation of your gift. Your card number never touches this website. Payment details go directly to our payment processor, and we neither see nor store them.
  • Anything else you send us. If you email, write, or call us, we have whatever you chose to tell us.

We do not buy personal information about you from data brokers or other organizations, and we do not append purchased data to what you give us.

Information collected automatically

Like essentially every website, the server that delivers these pages keeps a log of requests. A log entry records the IP address that made the request, the browser and operating system it reported, the page requested, the date and time, and the page that referred you, if any. We use these logs to keep the site secure and working, and to understand which pages people find useful.

This site runs no analytics service, no advertising or social-media tracking pixels, and no third-party tracking cookies. There is no Google Analytics tag, no Meta pixel, and nothing else of that kind. We do not build a profile of you, we do not follow you to other websites, and we have nothing to sell to anyone who would.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site sets no cookies of its own.

One small thing is stored in your browser. If you dismiss a site announcement, your browser records that in its session storage so the announcement does not reappear while you keep browsing. That record stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and identifies nothing about you. Closing your browser clears it.

If you submit the email signup form or continue to our donation page, those services may set their own cookies on their own websites. Those are governed by their privacy policies, not by this one.

Other services this site connects to

We think you are entitled to know which other companies see anything when you use this site. The complete list:

  • Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site load from Google’s servers, so Google receives your IP address and basic browser information when a page loads. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • YouTube video thumbnails. A few pages display thumbnail images for our videos, served from Google’s image host. Same effect as above. Our videos themselves are not embedded — the links open YouTube in a new tab only if you click them.
  • Intuit Mailchimp. Our email list runs on Mailchimp. Submitting the signup form sends what you typed to Mailchimp, which stores it and delivers our email. See Intuit’s privacy statement.
  • Our payment processor. Donations are processed by a third-party payment provider that handles the transaction and your card details under its own privacy policy and the applicable card-industry security standards.
  • Document hosting. Some of our older studies, filings, and legal documents are stored with a third-party file host. Clicking one of those links retrieves the file from that host.

We do not control how these companies operate, and this policy does not govern them.

How we use your information

We use what you give us to do the things you asked us to do, and to run a lawful nonprofit:

  • Send you the research, updates, and alerts you signed up for.
  • Answer your question and route it to the right person or chapter.
  • Process a gift, send you a receipt, and acknowledge your support.
  • Keep the records and make the filings the law requires of a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Keep this site secure, available, and working properly.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, to score or rank you, or to target you on other platforms.

We do not sell your information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent it, trade it, barter it, or exchange it. We do not provide our email list or our donor list to other organizations, to advocacy groups, to political campaigns or candidates, or to commercial list brokers — not for money, and not in trade for theirs.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation does not support or oppose candidates for public office. Your information is never used for an electoral campaign purpose.

Donor privacy

Our supporters’ privacy is not a formality to us. It is a condition of the work.

  • We do not publish a donor list, and we do not make the names or gift amounts of our donors public.
  • We do not sell, rent, or exchange donor information with any other organization, for any purpose.
  • Federal law requires 501(c)(3) organizations to report certain contributor information to the IRS on Schedule B of Form 990. That schedule is not part of the copy of our return made available for public inspection.
  • We recognize a donor publicly — in an annual report, at an event, or anywhere else — only with that donor’s permission.
  • You may ask to give anonymously, and we will honor it.
  • Our annual filings are available on our About page.

When we do share information

There are a few narrow circumstances in which information moves beyond us:

  • Service providers. Companies that work for us — our email platform, our payment processor, our web host — receive what they need to do that job, and only to do that job. They are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
  • Legal requirements. We will disclose information where the law requires it: a subpoena, a court order, a lawful government request, or a filing we are obligated to make.
  • Safety and rights. We may disclose information where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect the safety, rights, or property of the Foundation, our staff, our supporters, or the public.
  • Organizational change. If the Foundation ever merges with or transfers its assets to another organization, supporter information could transfer with it. It would remain subject to a privacy policy at least as protective as this one.

Email and text messages

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. One click removes you, and we honor it promptly. You can also ask us to remove you by writing to the address at the bottom of this page.

We send text messages only to people who have asked to receive them. Reply STOP to any message to stop them. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply.

We use your email address and phone number for the purpose you gave them to us for. We do not use a donation receipt as an excuse to add you to the mailing list, and we do not use the contact form as a back door onto it — each of those is a choice you make separately.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, and for as long as the law requires us to keep records — which, for gift records, is set by tax and charitable-registration rules rather than by us.

If you unsubscribe, we keep the minimum record needed to make sure we do not email you again. If you ask us to delete what we hold about you, we will, except where we are legally required to keep it.

How we protect information

This site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to supporter information is limited to the staff and contractors who need it to do their work. Card details never enter our systems at all.

We should be straight with you about the limits of that: no method of transmitting information over the internet, and no method of storing it, is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you should not send us Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or card numbers through the contact form or by email.

Your choices

  • Leave the list at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us and we will respond.
  • Skip the optional fields. Only your email address is required to join the list.
  • Do Not Track. Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. This site does not track you across websites in the first place, so there is nothing here for the signal to switch off.

Residents of some states have additional rights over their personal information under state law. If you believe you have such a right, contact us and we will honor any request the law entitles you to make.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. A parent or guardian who believes a child has given us information should contact us and we will remove it.

Our research links out constantly — to news outlets, court dockets, legislative records, government data, and other organizations’ work. Those sites are not ours. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and their policies, not this one, govern what they do with your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the revised version here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold, we will say so prominently on this page, and we will tell the people on our mailing list by email.
